CBI searches Jet Airways office, Chairman’s home in bank fraud case
Mumbai: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) conducted searches at seven locations in Mumbai in connection with a bank fraud case. The searches were at locations of Jet Airways Chairman Naresh Goyal in an alleged bank fraud case of Rs 538 crores.
His wife Anita Goyal and others are accused in the case, ANI said citing sources. The CBI said that searches were underway at around seven locations in Delhi and Mumbai, including the premises of Jet Airways, Goyal, and some former officials of the airline.
Notably, cash-strapped Jet Airways, once a pioneer of India’s private aviation industry, announced on April 17, 2019 that it was temporarily shutting down its operations after it failed to secure emergency funding from any source, including lenders.
In a statement the airline said it had been forced to ground all its flights because “prolonged and sustained efforts with lenders and authorities did not yield the desired results”.
