Srinagar: Security forces have killed the fifth terrorists in the encounter that broke out on Wednesday in forests of Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
According to a police official, the fifth terrorist was killed on Thursday morning after he fired at the security forces surrounding the Dooniwari forests in Rafiabad.
The encounter had started on Wednesday morning following specific information about the presence of some terrorists in the area.
The security forces comprising the Army, the CRPF and the SOG of the state police had killed four of the terrorists on Wednesday itself, said the official adding that a para commando of the Indian Army was also injured in the gun battle.
The police official said that though the encounter has ended, searches were still ongoing in the area.
Meanwhile, one of the two locals abducted by terrorists was tortured to death and his body was recovered on Wednesday from Kulgam district.
The other youth abducted by the terrorists has been released alive, said an official who said that the body of the dead youth had visible torture injuries on his body.
The police in Kulgam has registered a case and an investigation is in progress, added the official.
