JeM chief Masood Azhar’s close aide killed in J&K’s Tral; Policemen injured in grenade attack

Jammu: Tuesday’s encounter in Tral area of South Kashmir’s Pulwama in which four Jais-e-Mohammad (JeM) terrorists were killed, turned out to be a big surprise for the security forces as one of the four slain terrorists was a Jaish-e-Muhammad operational commander and a close aide of Masood Azhar, the chief of the said Pakistan based terror outfit.

This was disclosed on Thursday by state Director general of police (DGP) SP Vaid when he said: “Operational commander of JeM Mufti Yasir was among those killed in the joint operation in upper reaches of Tral.”

It may be recalled that four JeM terrorists killed in that encounter that lasted for eight hours. However, in the said gunfight, one soldier and a state police constable were also martyred.

The DGP has also uploaded a picture on Twitter of the slain terrorist showing him alongside Masood Azhar.

Meanwhile, a civilian was seriously injured as terrorists fired at a CRPF patrol in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Thursday and succumbed while being taken to hospital.

According to a police official, terrorist in a car fired at a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) patrol in Lazibal area on Srinagar-Pahalgam road in Anantnag, but only ended up injuring a civilian, identified as Shafeeq Shabir.

He said that the injured civilian was shifted to Srinagar for treatment but he succumbed to critical injuries before reaching the hospital.

Immediately after the incident, the security forces launched a manhunt to trace the nab or neutralise the terrorists responsible for the said act, said the police official.

On the other hand, two policemen and a civilian were injured in a grenade attack by terrorists on the Kulgam police station.
