Encounter near LoC in J&K’s Keran sector, soldier martyred

Srinagar: An Indian Army jawan injured in a gunfight with terrorists infiltrating from across the LoC in Keran sector of Kupwara district on Thursday morning, succumbed to his injuries later in the evening at an army hospital.

According to defence sources, two soldiers were injured in a fierce encounter with infiltrating terrorists at the LoC in the Keran sector in wee hours of Thursday.

Defence Ministry spokesman Col Rajesh Kalia said that the injured where shifted to hospital where one of them succumbed to his injuries.

He said that the gunfight with the infiltrating terrorists started when a Rashtriya Rifles patrol intercepted two to four infiltrating terrorists.

While during the encounter with the terrorists, two soldiers suffered non-fatal injuries and were taken to the army’s Drugmulla hospital in Kupwara where the condition of one of them deteriorated and was shifted to Army base hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

The martyred soldier has been identified as Sepoy Sukhvinder Singh.
