Srinagar: Two terrorists were gunned down by the security forces in an encounter in Bandipora district of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday.
According to an official, it was initially believed that there were at least four Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists trapped in Parry Mohala area of Hajin.
However, sources said that though two of the trapped terrorists were killed, the remaining two reportedly managed to escape the spot amid clashes which erupted near the encounter site with the locals.
The bodies of the neutralised terrorists were recovered from the encounter site in Parray Mohalla of Hajin area where searches were continuing after the firing the exchanges stopped.
A police official said that the exact identity of the slain terrorists is being ascertained.
Prior to the encounter, a patrol party of the Indian Army and state police was fired upon by terrorists. In retaliation, the security forces fired back at the terrorists, triggering the encounter in which two terrorists were gunned down.
