Srinagar: Security forces on Tuesday morning succeeded in gunning down two Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists following an encounter that lasted for around seven hours in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

A senior police official said that on receiving specific inputs about presence of some terrorists in Galoora village of Handwara, the security forces swung into action and cordoned off the area around 2.45 am. “As the security cordon was tightened, the hiding terrorists fired at the security forces triggering a fierce encounter that continued till 8.30 am,” said the police official.
He said that two terrorists were killed and they were identified as Furqan, resident of Langate and Liyaqat from Sopore.
Large quantity of arms and ammunition were also recovered from the slain terrorists, said the police official, adding the search operation were still on in the area.
It may be recalled that on Saturday, a LeT terrorist involved in carrying out a number of terror attacks on security forces was killed in an encounter in Achabal block of Anantnag district.
