Srinagar: Top Hizbul Mujahideen commanders – Tariq Maulvi alias Mufti Wakas and Lateef Tiger were among three terrorists killed in an encounter with security forces in south Kashmir’s Shopian.
Though sources have confirmed the report, an official confirmation is awaited.
Sources said that even though three terrorists operating in the Kashmir valley have been neutralised, an official confirmation is still awaited.
However, in the said encounter an Army man was also injured.
It may be mentioned here that Lateef Tiger was the last surviving terrorist of Burhan Wani’s group.
Giving details of the encounter, a police official said that a joint team of 34 RR and Special Operations Group (SOG) and the CRPF launched an operation in Imam Sahib following inputs on the presence of terrorists in the area.
As the security cordon tightened, an exchange of fire took place between terrorists and security forces in Adkhara area of Imam Sahib of Shopian district in which three terrorists were killed, said a police official.
The house in which the terrorists were hiding was destroyed in the gunfight while two other houses were partially damaged.
