Soldier martyred as Pakistan violates ceasefire in J&K’s Poonch

New Delhi: An Indian army soldier was martyred in a fresh unprovoked ceasefire violation by Pakistan in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir.

According to reports, the unprovoked firing from Pakistan started at about 1 pm on Sunday. Pakistan fired small arms and shelling along with mortars in Poonch.

The martyred soldier has been identified as Grenadier Hemraj Jat. He was from Bhadoon village in Roopangarh tehsil of Rajasthan’s Alwar and had joined the Army on March 2017.

Indian Army chief Bipin Rawat had visited J&K on Friday and Saturday and had told soldiers posted along the LoC to be alert to foil infiltration bids by terrorists from across the LoC with the help of enemy force.

Pakistan has upped the ante at the LoC through repeated ceasefire violations after abrogation of Article 370.

It may be mentioned here that there were more than of 275 instances of ceasefire violations by Pakistan along the LoC in the month of August alone.
