Terrorist killed in J&K’s Awantipora encounter

New Delhi: Security forces on Tuesday succeeded ion killing a Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist following an encounter in South Kashmir’s Awantipora.

Though the encounter has ended, search operation was still on in the Charsoo area

According to a police official, after a 40-day gap since the last encounter, the security forces were engaged in a gun battle with terrorists in which a Hizbul terrorists was neutralised.

The police official said that the neutralised terrorists was identified as Zahid Hassan Gadhanji of Anantnag. He had joined the terror ranks only a few days ago.

Giving details of the encounter, the police official said that on receiving information about presence of some terrorists in the Charsoo area, a cordon and search operation was launched by the the Jammu and Kashmir Police, the Army and CRPF. ” As the security cordon tightened, the hiding terrorists fired at the forces triggering an encounter in which one terrorists was gunned down,” said the official adding that large quantity of arms and ammunition was recovered from the site where the terrorists was neutralised.

Though the encounter has ended, search operation was still on in the Charsoo area, added the police official.
