Jammu: Three terrorists were gunned down and a policeman injured in an encounter between security forces and terrorists near Jammu on Friday morning.

A large quantity of arms and ammunition has been recovered

The incident took place at around 5.45 am, when a police team was randomly checking vehicles near the Nagrota toll post on the Jammu-Srinagar national highway and intercepted a Srinagar-bound truck.

According to an official, an encounter started when the terrorists inside the truck fired at the police, injuring one policeman. In the retaliatory fire by the police one terrorist was killed while the remaining three to four terrorists ran towards the forest area.

Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbag Singh said that the module is from a fresh infiltration that could have happened from the International Border in Jammu last night.

Singh said that a search operation was immediately started and an exchange of fire ensued. Later two more terrorists were killed and the operation was on to nab or neutralise the last of the four terrorists, said the official.

A large quantity of arms and ammunition has been recovered from the encounter site.

Sources said that it seems to be a Jaish-e-Mohammed module, which had infiltrated from the Hiranagar – Kathua International Border in Jammu.

Apart from neutralising three terrorists, the security forces have apprehended one suspect believed to be an overground worker of the terror outfit.
