LeT terror module busted in J&K’s Doda district, seven terrorists nabbed

Jammu: Jammu and Kashmir police on Saturday busted a Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terror module was busted in Doda district and arrested seven LeT terrorists and seized a cache of arms ammunition.

The module was working to revive terrorism in the Doda- Kishtwar-Ramban region

Talking to mediapersons here, Inspector General of Police (IGP) of Jammu Zone SDS Jamwal said that the arrests were made by a special investigation team (SIT) formed after the attack on a police post in Doda on May 8.

In the said attack, one special police officer (SPO) was killed and another injured.

The IG police said that the module was working to revive terrorism in the Doda- Kishtwar-Ramban region of the state.

He said that the module was busted on the basis of intelligence inputs picked by the SIT from some suspects and in turn nabbed Abdul Rashid Harga alias Abdullah, who is a resident of Tanta.

It may be mentioned here that Rashid had been an active member and had later surrendered. He was again arrested in 2013 and was released on bail in 2016.

The police official said that on being interrogated, Rashid confessed to his involvement in the (Doda) firing incident and disclosed the names of his two associates — his younger brother Showket Ali and Akthar Magary of Tanta.

He said that on interrogation, four more persons — Bashir Ahmed, who was earlier part of Territorial Army, his nephew and SPO Altaf Ahmed, Shafqat Hussain and Hafiz — were nabbed by the police.

From the arrested LeT operatives, an AK-47 rifle and three magazines and ammunition have been recovered.

The police official further said that Rashid was in direct contact with his Pakistani handler, Mohd Amin alais Khubeb alais Haroon alais Pinna of the LeT.

Rashid had been regularly conducting meetings in various areas of the Chenab Valley and motivating former terrorists and also those who had given up arms, added the IG.
