Security forces kill two Hizbul terrorists in J&K’s Sopore

Srinagar: After a night-long cordon, the security forces on Wednesday morning succeeded in killing two Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists in an encounter in Sopore town of Baramulla district in Kashmir.

He said that the search operation was halted for the night but the forces maintained the cordon

According to a senior police official, the slain terrorists have been identified as Basit Ahmad Mir, a resident of Indergam Pattan, and Gulzar Ahmad, a resident of Brat Sopore.

He said that a joint team of the Rashtriya Rifles, the Special Operations Group of the police and the Central Reserve Police Force surrounded Pazalpora village in Baramulla district on Tuesday evening following intelligence inputs about the presence of some terrorists.

He said that the search operation was halted for the night but the forces maintained the cordon to stop the hiding terrorists from escaping.

“As the security forces started the operation on Wednesday morning and came close to the place of hiding of the terrorists, they opened fire to break free from the security cordon and escape,” said the police official adding that the hiding terrorists were eliminated in the ensuing gun-battle that lasted briefly.

He said that two AK rifles, five AK magazines, 124 AK rounds, a hand grenade and a pouch have been recovered by the security forces from the encounter site. “Though the encounter has ended, an intensive search operation is still on in the area,” added the police official.
