Srinagar: An Army jawan was martyred and three terrorists killed in an encounter that broke out between terrorists and security forces in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir on Monday night.

According to a senior police official, on receiving inputs about the presence of some terrorists in Kandi belt of Aglar area in Pulwama district of south Kashmir, the the security forces comprising the Rashtriya Rifles, the CRPF and the SOG of the state police launched a joint operation.
He said that as the cordon-and-search operation was initiated, the hiding terrorists resorted to heavy firing at the security forces, triggering a fierce retaliation in which three terrorists were gunned down three.
However, in the ongoing operation against the terrorists, an Army jawan was also martyred besides injury to a civilian who was caught in the crossfire. He has been identified as Tariq Ahmad and was shifted to a hospital.
The martyred soldier has been identified as Sham Sunder of 44 Rashtriya Rifles.
The exchange of fire between the hiding terrorists and the security forces was on till reports last came in, said the police official adding that there could be at least two more terrorists hiding in the area.
Meanwhile, Internet facility in Pulwama district has been suspended to check the spread of rumours in the area with security reinforcement have reached to plug the possible escape routes for the hiding terrorists.
