Army Major martyred, 4 terrorists killed in Nagaland encounter

Kohima: An Army Major and four terrorists were killed in a fierce gunfight near the India-Myanmar border in Nagaland’s Mon district on Wednesday.

The identity of the four slain terrorists is still to be established

According to a police official, condition of one of the three soldiers of the 12 Para Commandos of the Army injured in the battle at Lapa Lempong hilltop in Oting village was critical.

Sources said that acting on intelligence inputs, a joint team of Para Commandos and Territorial Army ambushed a group of National Socialist Council of Nagaland-Khaplang (NSCN-K) and the United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I) terrorists.

Police sources said that the terrorists had sneaked in from Myanmar into Nagaland’s Mon district.

Though the gunfight has come to an end, search operations were on to nab the fleeing terrorists, said a police official.

He saod that Major David Manlum of Territorial Army was killed and three para commandos were injured in the gunfight.

The identity of the four slain terrorists is still to be established.
