Azam under ED scanner for establishing university on Enemy Property

Lucknow: It seems trouble for Samajwadi Party’s Lok Sabha member Azam Khan increasing by the day as the Enforcement Directorate on Friday initiated a money-laundering probe against him over suspicion that the Mohammad Ali Jauhar university run by him has been built on the land, which was brought in violation of the enemy property law.

Here it may be mentioned that Azam Khan had established the aforementioned University in the Rampur district of Uttar Pradesh. Role of Khan came under the ED scanner over alleged violation of rules in acquiring land for the institution.

After it came to light that the university was established on the Enemy Property, the ED sought a reply from the Rampur District administration and the Higher Education Authority.

It is worth mentioning here that the Enemy properties are the immovable assets left behind by people who migrated to Pakistan since the Partition.

As per government records, there are over 9,000 such properties left behind by Pakistani nationals and 126 by Chinese nationals and all such properties are regulated under the Enemy Property Act.

In view of these developments, the UP police have filed a case against Khan and others in this regard.

At least 26 cases of land grabbing were registered against Azam Khan by farmers, who claim, that he usurped their land for the said University.
