BSF thwarts Pakistan-backed heroin, narcotics smuggling bid in Punjab’s Tarn Taran

Tarn Taran: In yet another significant breakthrough, the Border Security Force (BSF) recovered heroin and narcotic substances in the Tarn Taran area of Punjab. This is the second such operation within a span of few days in the area.

“On the night intervening 09th & 10th Jan’ 2022, during midnight hours, alert Border Security Force troops on border patrol duty heard sound of something thrown over the border fence towards own side of fencing in the area falling near Village – Wan, District – Tarn Taran,” BSF said in a statement.

Sources said that troops also sensed the presence of smugglers ahead of border fence and fired towards them, but the smugglers managed to escape taking advantage of dense fog.

Further, during initial search of the area, troops recovered five bottles wrapped in socks filled with narcotics suspected to be heroin. It is learnt that narcotics weighing 2.5 kg were recovered by the agency.

This is second such incident in the region within a short span of four days. On January 7, the BSF and Fazilka Police had arrested two drug cartel operators in what is believed to be a large nexus of cross-border drug suppliers. In that operation, the authorities recovered 31.02 kg heroin

“During the night intervening 5th/6th January 2023, alert BSF troops noted suspicious movement in AOR of BOP Chakmira, 55 Bn, Abohar sector and fired upon the suspects,” the BSF had said in a statement.
