Chennai: Tamil Nadu police have arrested Congress leader and writer, Nellai Kannan for making hate speech against the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister Amit Shah at event of Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI), the political wing of alleged Islamic radical group, the Popular Front of India (PFI).

PFI is under scanner for its role in violent protests across the nation against CAA. Uttar Pradesh Government has written to the Union Home Ministry to impose a ban of PFI.

The Tamil Congress leader, Nellai Kannan, in his provocative speech made at an event of SDPI last week had said that he was puzzled why the Muslims have not yet killed Modi and Shah.

The police picked up Nellai Kannan from hotel in Perambalur on Wednesday.

The arrest came hours after Chennai police detained former Union Minister Pon Radhakrishan, senior BJP leader La Ganesan, party national Secretary H Raja, and former state party chief CP Radhakrishnan for protesting here demanding the arrest of Nellai Kannan.

He had also made critical comments against Tamil Nadu Chief Minister K Palaniswami, Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam and others.
