Five killed and several injured in Nagaland bus accident near Tsiesema

At least five people lost their lives and several others were seriously injured when a bus was involved in an accident on 10th Mile Road near Tsiesema in Kohima district, Nagaland, on Saturday night. The incident occurred at approximately 8 pm, according to reports.

The cause of the accident has not yet been confirmed, but preliminary accounts suggest that brake failure may have been responsible. The bus was travelling from Mokokchung to Chümoukedima, near Dimapur.

Ten passengers are currently undergoing treatment at a hospital in Dimapur, with some in critical condition. The injured were admitted to the Christian Institute of Health Sciences and Research (CIHSR) for medical care.

Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy and extended his condolences to the bereaved families, with particular mention of the members of the Chümoukedima Ao Baptist Church. He announced an ex-gratia payment of ₹2 lakh each to the families of the deceased and ₹50,000 to those seriously injured, and wished for the speedy recovery of the injured.
