Fresh Pakistani shelling injures six in Jammu, injured baby succumbs

Jammu: Pakistan Rangers resorted to fresh round of shelling along the International Border (IB) in Jammu, injuring six people and killing a baby on Monday.

The police has been evacuating civilians from areas close to the the border

According to a senior police official, an eight-month-old baby, who was hit by a stray bullet fired from across the border on Sunday, succumbed to his injuries.

He said that in Monday’s firing, a special police officer (SPO) and five other civilians including a woman were injured in the shelling on Border Security Force (BSF) positions and civilian facilities in Arnia sector.

This fresh round of agggression was indulged in by the Pakistan Rangers a day after they contacted BSF over phone and pleaded for a truce and assured to maintain peace in the area.

The police official said that a shell fired from across the IB exploded in the compound of Arnia police station injuring a woman and a SPO.

Apart from causing injury to the woman SPO, four civilians were also injured in Pakistan shelling in Arnia area.

Amid fierce exchange of firing at the IB, the police has been evacuating civilians from areas close to the the border and has also advised people not to move out of their homes till shelling stops.
