Hizbul terrorists killed in encounter with Security forces in J&K’s Anantnag

Srinagar: A day after terrorists fired at an Army patrol in Shopian in which an officer and a jawan were martyred, the security forces facing a similar type of situation succeeded in gunning down a Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) terrorist along with an unidentified person in wee hours of Friday in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

According to a senior police official, acting on specific input about the presence of three terrorists in Herpora (Kanelwan) area of Anantnag district, a cordon and search operation was launched by the Rashtriya Rifles, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and the local police in the aforementioned area.

However, during the search operation, the security forces were greeted with a burst of gun fire by the terrorists hiding in the area and in the resulting exchange of fire, a terrorist and an unidentified individual were killed, said the police official adding that since the operation was being carried out in the darkness of the night, at least two terrorists managed to give the security forces a slip away and escaped.

Later, during the course of the search operation, it was learnt that an unidentified person riding a motorcycle was killed along with the HM terrorist.

The police official said that no document could be recovered from the unidentified individual killed at the encounter site to establish his identity.

He said that the slain HM terrorist was identified as Yawar Nissar Shergujri alias Algazi.

From the neutralised terrorist, one SLR (self-loading rifle), 2 magazines, 40 rounds of ammunition, one Chinese hand grenade and a pouch were recovered, added the police official.

In the said encounter, a solider of Rashtriya Rifles, Rifleman Rohit Kumar also sustained injuries.
