I-T dept raids over 30 spots linked to close aides of Maharashtra SP leader Abu Azmi
New Delhi: The Income Tax has raided over 30 locations linked to Samajwadi Party leader Abu Azmi’s close aide, the late Ganesh Gupta and his wife, Abha Ganesh Gupta, during a probe related to benami property investments and black money.
Abha Ganesh Gupta is the wife of the late Ganesh Gupta, who was a close aide of Abu Azmi and the Secretary of the Samajwadi Party in Maharashtra when Abu Azmi was the president of the party’s Maharashtra wing.
The raids began at Kamal Mansion in Colaba where Abha Gupta and Abu Azmi’s offices are located. The department raided over thirty locations across Mumbai, Varanasi, Kanpur, Delhi, Kolkata, and Lucknow.
The I-T department also raided Vinayak Nirman Ltd, one of the companies in Varanasi where Abha Gupta made huge benami investments.
Officials said that entry operators were being used for hawala purposes on premises being raided in Kolkata.
They said another group, Vinayak Real Estate in Varanasi, was under scanner, and its premises were being raided.
They said some other politicians will also be probed by the agency.
