Srinagar: Averting a major tragedy, the alert security forces on Thursday detected and defused an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) on the strategic Srinagar-Jammu national highway in South Kashmir’s Awantipora town of Pulwama district.

According to a senior police official, the alert troops of the Rashtriya Rifle detected a power IED with at least 15 kg explosive during a routine patrol on the highway at Charsoo in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
The police official said that the IED planted by terrorists near a bridge that connects Srinagar with South Kashmir’s Pulwama district was successfully defused by the security forces. “Had the terrorists succeeded in exploding the IED, it would have created a major hurdle for the security forces in carrying out its duty in the sensitive area,” said the police official.
He further said that by averting a major tragedy on the busy highway, the security forces also saved the people of the Kashmir valley from a major inconvenience.
