A letter, directing Vice Chancellors of 9 Universities of Kerala to tender their resignation by 11:30 am on October 24, has been issued. The letter has also been emailed to VCs and Registrars of varsities concerned.

The nine universities are University of Kerala, Mahatma Gandhi University, Cochin University of Science and Technology, Kerala University of Fisheries & Ocean studies, Kannur University, APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University, Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit, University of Calicut, and Thunchath Ezhuthachan Malayalam University.

The Supreme Court had earlier cancelled the appointment of Dr Rajashree MS as Vice Chancellor of Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Technical University (KTU). As per the University Grants Commission, the search committee should have recommended a panel of not less than three qualified persons for the post of VC but in Rajashree’s case, only her name was recommended.

The announcement also comes hours after the ruling LDF announced a series of protests in November against the governor.
