MiG-21 trainer aircraft crashes in MP’s Gwalior, pilots safe

Gwalior: A MiG-21 trainer aircraft of the Indian Air Force (IAF) crashed on Wednesday morning near Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh.

The crash occured after the aircraft took off from the airfield on a training sortie.

There were no casualties in the incident, said the Indian Air Force (IAF).

According to sources, the crash took place around 10 am.

“It was a twin-seater trainer jet with two pilots — a Group Captain and a Squadron Leader. Both ejected safely before the crash, ” said an IAF spokesman adding that the reason for the said crash is not known.

A Court of Inquiry has been instituted by the IAF to ascertain whether a technical snag or human error led to the crash, said sources.
