NIA arrests two from Bengaluru, Mumbai for radicalising youth

New Delhi: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested two more people on Sunday, who were allegedly in contact with foreign-based terrorist organisations. The accused identified as Mohd Arif was arrested in Karnataka’s Bengaluru, while Hamraz Worshid Shaikh was nabbed from Maharashtra’s Thane.

Of the 21 people, 17 are from Kasargode district in the northern tip of Kerala

The accused also spoke about their plans to leave for Afghanistan to continue with their terrorist activities

Preliminary investigations revealed that the accused conspired with terrorist organisations online to radicalise youth and provoke them to indulge in acts of violence and terrorism.

Amid the searches involved to bust terrorists in Bengaluru, a suspected terrorist, with links to the banned terror outfit Al-Qaeda, was arrested in Bengaluru by the NIA on Saturday.

The suspect, identified as Arif, was working as a software engineer in Bengaluru. As per the sources, he was in touch with people over the internet for more than two years. He wanted to fly to Iran and Afghanistan to join the Islamic State (IS). NIA has seized his laptop and other electronic devices for investigation.
