One terrorist killed in Kashmir’s Budgam encounter, searches on

Srinagar: An unidentified terrorists was killed and a woman injured on Sunday morning during an encounter between the security forces and the terrorists in central Kashmir’s Badgam district.

According to a senior police official, acting on specific inputs regarding the presence of terrorists, 53 Rashtriya Rifles (RR), Jammu and Kashmir Police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) launched a cordon and search operation in Aarizal village of Beerwah tehsil in Badgam.

He said that during the search operation, one terrorist was gunned down while he made a futile bid to escape after coming out of the house he was hiding in. The terrorist fired indiscriminately at the security forces, resulting in injury to a woman.

However, in retaliatory fire, a terrorist was neutralized whose identity and affiliation is being ascertained, said the police official adding that huge cache of arms and ammunition has been recovered from the encounter site.

The police official said that the injured woman shifted to a hospital where her condition is is stated to be stable.

Meanwhile, the area where the encounter took place is still under cordon and searches were on by the security forces.
