Pakistan again resorts to heavy shelling across LoC in Poonch sector

Jammu: It was for the second time in a day when Pakistan army violated ceasefire on the Line of Control by firing on Indian positions in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district on Monday evening by resorting to heavy shelling to facilitate infiltration.

Earlier in the day, the Pakistani troops had resorted to unprovoked firing at Indian positions and also the civilian areas.

According to defence sources, Pakistan Army started heavy shelling on Indian positions in the evening.

Confirming the report Defence Ministry spokesman, Lt Col Manish Mehta said, “Pakistan Army initiated indiscriminate firing of small arms, automatics and mortars from 6.45 pm onwards in Krishna Ghati sector of LoC.”

He said that the Indian Army has been retaliating strongly and effectively. Firing exchanges were still going on, he added.

Meanwhile, a statement from the Udhampur-headquartered Northern Command of the army said that troops had foiled yet another infiltration bid in Poonch sector on the night between June 11/12 and recovered 8 rucksacks and warlike stores in a search.

On the other hand, two CRPF troopers were injured when terrorists fired a grenade at their camp in South Kahsmir’s Pulwama district on Monday evening.

Terrorists fired a grenade at the CRPF camp in Tral town of Pulwama, a police official said.

“Two CRPF jawans sustained minor injuries in the grenade fired from an UBGL (under barrel grenade launcher). The area has been cordoned off and searches mounted to trace the terrorists,” the official said.
