PM Modi inaugurates luxurious Ganga Vilas cruise, tent city in Varanasi

Varanasi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday inaugurated the much-awaited luxurious Ganga Vilas River cruise and tent city in the Indian spiritual capital of Varanasi.

The Prime Minister flagged off the world’s longest river cruise MV Ganga Vilas which will sail from Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh to Dibrugarh in Assam covering a journey of about 3,200 kms. It will also pass Bangladesh on its journey.

“The beginning of the world’s longest river cruise service on river Ganga is a landmark moment. It will herald a new age of tourism in India,” PM Modi said at the event.

Apart from the big projects, he also inaugurated five new jetties for the tourists to experience local culture of Varanasi and nearby areas.

“Today, foundation stones have been laid for several other inland waterways projects worth more than Rs 1000 crores. This will expand trade and tourism and employment opportunities in eastern India,” the Prime Minister added.

“I want to tell passengers onboard river cruise liner MV Ganga Vilas that India has everything that you can imagine, it also has what is beyond your imagination, India cannot be defined in words but can be experienced with heart. India has always opened her heart to everyone, irrespective of religion,” PM Modi said.

Union Min Sarbhananda Sonowal, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath were also present at the launch event. Bihar Deputy Chief Minister, Tejashwi Yadav and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also joined the event virtually.

“I would like to thank PM Narendra Modi because the river cruise which is starting today is connecting Kashi to Assam as well. Passengers who will come on this cruise will get the opportunity to visit Maa Kamakhya Temple, Kaziranga National Park & other places,” Assam CM Sarma said at the launch event.
