Srinagar: Security forces have killed a terrorist Monday in an encounter in Handwara area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

According to a senior police official, the security forces on receiving information about presence of some terrorists in the area, launched a cordon and search operation at Hongnikote in Haphruda forest area of Handwara.
The police official said that during searches, the hiding terrorists opened fire on security forces, triggering an encounter in which of the terrorists was neutralised.
The operation is still in progress, added the police official.
Meanwhile, terrorists have killed a woman by slitting her throat in Bandipora district, police said on Monday.
A police official said the terrorists barged into the house of one Abdul Majid Dar, associated with Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in Shahgund village of Hajin area on Sunday night.
He said that the terrorists attacked Dar’s wife Shakeela Begum, and slit her throat. Injured Shakeela was taken to a hospital where she died.
