Srinagar: Security forces on Saturday killed two Jaish-e-Muhammad (JeM) terrorists in an encounter in Khonmoh area on the outskirts of Srinagar district.

According to a police official, three police personnel have also been injured in the encounter. The terrorists had planned to target Republic Day celebrations in Srinagar, said the police official.
On receiving inputs about the presence of some terrorists in the area, the security forces comprising the Rashtriya Rifles, the Special Operations Group (SOG) of the state Police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) cordoned off Khonmoh area.
As the security cordon tightened, the hiding terrorists fired, triggering an encounter in which two JeM terrorists were neutralised, said police official.

He said that the search operation is on in the area.
Security was heightened in the city as various official functions were scheduled in connection with the Republic Day celebrations.
