Seven terrorists including top LeT commander killed in Kashmir Valley encounters

Srinagar: Seven terrorists were killed while seven security personnel and 18 civilians were injured in four separate encounters during the last twenty four hours in the Kashmir Valley.

Security forces killed two terrorists following a gunfight which started on Friday

According to a senior police official, the encounters in Baramulla, Hajin, Sopore and Shopian started on Thursday.

He said that two terrorists and a boy held hostage by the terrorists in a house in which they were hiding, died in a gunfight in Bandipora district’s Mir Mohalla area on Friday. The encounter began on Thursday, said the police official.

The police official said that both of the neutralised terrorists were identified as Pakistanis and members of the Pakistan-based terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT). One them was a top LeT commander, Ali Bhai.

In Shopian district’s Ratnipora village, the security forces killed two terrorists following a gunfight which started on Friday, the police said.

Clashes broke out between terrorists sympathisers and security forces near the gunfight site.

The security forces used tear smoke and pellet gunshots to quell the protests, leaving a dozen persons injured.

In another encounter in Sopore’s Warpora area, two terrorists were killed at the same place where two policemen were injured earlier.

On Thursday, three terrorists were killed while seven security personnel and three civilians were injured in three different gun battles in the Kashmir Valley.

The police said the gunfight in Bandipora has ended while at the other two sites in Sopore and Shopian, searches were being carried out after firing exchanges stopped.
