Srinagar: On a day when a local Lashkar-e-Taiba recruit laid arms to return for rejoining the mainstream, a police officer lost his life fighting terrorists on the outskirts of the city here on Friday evening but in the ensuing gunfight a terrorist was also killed.

“A police sub-inspector was martyred and two others injured in a terrorist attack in Zakura area at a police checkpsot near Hazaratbal,” said a police official.
He said that in the esuing gunfight, one of the terrorists was killed but his two associates managed to escape from the scene.
Police Sub-Inspector Imran Tak was injured in the terrorist firing and succumbed to his injuries.
The police official said that the area has been surrounded to locate the two terrorists who managed to give a slip to the security forces.
“A terrorist identified as Mugees Ahmed Mir of Ansar Ghazwatul Hind was also killed in this encounter, while another policeman, injured in the encounter, is being treated in hospital and doctors have said he is out of danger,” said the police official adding that a terrorist engaged the gunfight was also arrested.
The slain terrorist belonged to Parimpora area in city outskirts and his body had been taken to his home
It may be mentioned here that Ansar Ghazwatul Hind is a newly-created Al Qaida cell in Jammu and Kashmir and his headed by local terrorist Zakir Musa.
