Srinagar: Three soldiers were martyred and an unidentified terrorist was gunned down in a fierce encounter between terrorists and security forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Bandipora district early on Tuesday morning.

According to a senior police official, on receiving specific information about the presence of some terrorists in the area, security forces launched a search operation in Parraypora village. “As the security forces closed in, the hiding terrorists started firing at them, triggering a fierce encounter,” said the police official.
He said that eight people, including seven security men and one civilian, were injured during the gunfight in the village located in Hajin area.
The injured security force personnel have been rushed to a hospital, said the police official.
The identity of the slain terrorist has not been ascertained yet.
The three soldiers killed in the gunfight belonged to the counter insurgence 13 Rashtriya Rifles.
The injured includes a Commanding Officer of the Central Reserve Police Force.
When reports last came in, the operation was on.
