Srinagar: A terrorist was killed on Wednesday morning in a gunfight with the security forces in Tral area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
A Defence Ministry statement said: “A terrorist has been killed in Branpathri forest area encounter today. Arms and ammunition have been recovered. The operation is still going on”.
A police official said that the security forces started a cordon and search operation in Branpathri forest area of Tral tehsil following information about the presence of a group of terrorists there.
As the cordon around the hiding terrorists was tightened, the resorted to firing and in retaliatory firing a terrorists was killed, said the police official.
He said that the security personnel have managed to surround the terrorists who had fled to the forested area in a bid to escape but the security forces were hunting the remaining terrorists using drones.
Till reports last came in the operation was underway.
