Srinagar: Terrorists on Tuesday attacked a police picket in South Kashmir’s Shopian district, killing four police personnel of the state police and escaped with their rifles.

According to a senior police official, a group of three to four terrorists attacked a police picket in Zainpora village that was set up to protect members of the minority community.
The police official said that three policemen were killed on the spot while a fourth one succumbed to gunshot injuries in the hospital.
He said that after killing the policemen, the terrorists escaped with four rifles of the policemen.
Immediately after the incident, a manhunt was launched to trace and neutralised the terrorists responsible for the gruesome act.
Till reports last came in, the cordon and search operation by the security forces was on in the area.
Meanwhile, Pakistan based terror outfit, Jaish-e-Muhammad (JeM) has claimed responsibility for the attack.
