Srinagar: An encounter between security forces and terrorists in the outskirts of Srinagar’s Gomander area of Pantha Chowk on Friday resulted in killing of three Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) terrorists.

One of the killed terrorists has been identified as Suhail Ahmad Rather

A police officer monitoring the operation said that a police party had gone to pick a suspect in the area. “As the team reached near the entrance of the house it came under fire by hiding terrorists from inside where some terrorists were hiding,” said that police official adding that the firing by the hiding terrorists was retaliated by the security forces which resulted in killing of three terrorists.

The police officials said that one of the killed terrorists has been identified as Suhail Ahmad Rather and he was affiliated with terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM).

Efforts were on to identify the other two terrorists, the officials said adding that arms and ammunition, along with other incriminating material, have been recovered from the site.

Terrorist Suhail was also involved in Zewan Terror Attack. All terrorists involved in the Zewan attack have been neutralised, Kashmir Zone Police on Twitter quoted IG Vijay Kumar as saying.

According to officials familiar with the developments, around four security force personnel—including three policemen and one of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF)—were also injured in the encounter, that started around midnight at Srinagar’s Pantha Chowk.

The injured security personnel were immediately shifted to the hospital for treatment. Some of the injured have sufferrred serious injuries, the police official said.

This marks the third encounter in Kashmir in the last 24 hours. In two encounters that happened in south Kashmir, two districts security forces claimed to have killed 6 Jaish terrorists among them two were Pakistani and recovered a huge number of arms and ammunition.
