Three JMB operatives arrested in Assam
Guwahati: The police have arrested three Jamat-Ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) operatives in the Barpeta district of Assam.
According to the police on Wednesday, three JMB operatives were arrested from different areas of the district in the past 24 hours.
Based on a tip-off, the police first arrested Hafizur Rahman from Karagari village under the Bhabanipur police station on Tuesday. Later Yakub Ali and Sariful Islam were arrested from Koyakuchi Pam village in the district.
“We have also recovered a pistol and four live rounds of ammunition from Hafizur,” the police said and added, Hafizur was a trained bomb expert.
According to the police, Hafizur had completed his education at a madrasa in UP. “He had also spent some time in Kerala before returning to Assam four months back. He was working as a bakery hawker and was involved in JMB activities in the Barpeta and Baksa districts,” the police said.
Hafizur was involved in recruiting fresh operatives for the JMB in Assam. The trio was being questioned to find out more leads into JMB activities in Assam.
The Assam Police have arrested several JMB operatives and busted their camps in the district, which has emerged as a hub of Jihadi activities.
