Three LeT terrorists killed, one captured alive in J&K’s Kulgam encounter

Srinagar: Three Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists were killed and a soldier martyred in a day-long encounter that erupted on Monday between the security forces and terrorists holed up in a house in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kulgam district.

Confirming the report, Defence Ministry spokesman Colonel Rajesh Kalia said that three terrorists were killed and a soldier martyred in a gunfight in Qazigund area of Kulgam district.

A senior police official said that the encounter broke out when terrorists fired at an army patrol on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway in Qazigund area of Kulgam, injuring two soldiers.

He said that immediately after the attack, the terrorists who were two in number, entered a private house which was surrounded immediately by the security forces.

He said that as the security forces closed in, the holed up terrorists fired at the security forces, triggering a gunfight that continued for nearly four hours.

Among the three neutralised terrorists, two were Pakistani who identified as Furqan and Maviya and a local terrorist, Yawar who belonged to Qazigund area, added the police official.

He further said that another local terrorist identified as Rashid Alia who had managed to escape with an injury on his hand, was later arrested from Anantnag town where he had gone for treatment.
