Srinagar: Security forces on Thursday killed three terrorists in a fierce encounter in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

Though the encounter has ended, a search operation still continues in the area

A senior Police official said that the bodies of the neutralised terrorists along with huge quantity of arms and ammunition has been recovered from the encounter site in Gulshanpora village.

He said that the slain terrorists were believed to be associated with Pakistan based terror outfit Hizbul Mujahideen. However, the exact identity of the slain terrorists is still being established, said the police official.

Though the encounter has ended, a search operation still continues in the area, added the police official.

Giving details of the encounter, the police official said that security forces on receiving a tip off about presence of some terrorists in the area, launched a cordon and search operation in Gulshanpora village.

“As the cordon around the terrorists was tightened, they fired at the surrounding security forces to break the cordon and escape,” said the police official.

Meanwhile, the Army has refuted reports about one of the three injured soldiers in Tral gunfight having died.

Defence Ministry spokesman Colonel Rajesh Kalia said: “Media reports about the death of one of the injured soldiers in Tral area encounter having succumbed to injuries are denied.

“The injured soldier is being treated in the hospital”.

Earlier reports had said that one of the three army soldiers injured in Tral area gunfight had succumbed to their injuries.
