Srinagar: Following a fierce encounter in Budgam district of South Kahsmir on Monday, three terrorists were gunned down, said an official.

A senior police official said that on receiving specific information about presence of some terrorists in Hapatnar forests of Chrar-e-Sharief area, the security forces swung into action and started a cordon and search operation.
The police official said that as the cordon was being tightened, the hiding terrorists fired upon the security forces triggering the encounter in which three terrorists were neutralised.
He said that as the area where encounter took place was mountainous, reinforcements were rushed to ensure that the holed up terrorists remained confined in the area.
The operation was carried out by a team comprising 53 Rashtriya Rifles, Budgam police and CRPF officials, said the official.
The police official said that though three terrorists have been killed, the search operation in the area continues in the area as more terrorists are said to be hiding in the vicinity of the encounter site.
Locals resorted to stone pelting to thwart the operation to facilitate the hiding terrorists escape.
The identity of the neutralised terrorists is being established.
