Srinagar: In a second encounter of the day, this time in north Kashmir’s Hajin Kralgund village in Handwara area of Kupwara district on Tuesday evening, three terrorists were killed and an army officer injured who later succumbed to his injuries.
A senior police official said that acting on a specific information about presence of terrorists in the area, security personnel comprising Army’s 30 RR and the state’s SOG wing cordoned the area.
“During the course of search operation, the security personnel were fired upon by the hiding terrorists and this triggered a fierce encounter in which three terrorists were gunned down,” said the police official.
However, during the operation, one Army officer was injured. He received bullet injuries to which he later succumbed in the hospital, said the police official.
The martyred army officer is Major S Dhaiya.
Though the encounter in the area has end, combing operations continues in the area, added the police official.
Earlier in the day, three soldiers were martyred and a terrorist killed in an encounter in Hajin area of Bandipora.
