Three terrorists killed within 24 hours in J&K’s Baramulla, Shopian
Srinagar: What could be viewed as a major blow to terror outfits operating in the Kashmir valley, the security forces succeeded in killing three terrorists in two separate encounters during the last 24 hours.
According to a senior police official, security forces in Baramulla district on Saturday killed a terrorist in an encounter in Warpora area of Sopore.
The police official said that at least two more terrorists are believed to be trapped in the area.
He said that a joint operation was launched by the 22 Rashtriya Rifles (RR), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Special Operations Group (SOG) in Sopore. In this encounter a soldier is reported to have been injured.
Whereas, in the second encounter, yet another terrorist was killed on Saturday morning taking the tally to two in Shopian encounter that started on Friday in Pandushan village of the district.
In this encounter, an Army jawan was injured on Friday and later succumbed to his injuries in a hospital.
The police official said that among the two terrorists neutralised in Shopian, a top Jem terrorist Zeenat ul Islam Naikoo was one among them. The second terrorists neutralised by the security forces has been identified as Manzoor Bhatt, an affiliate of terror outfit Hizbul Mujahideen.
It may be mentioned here that Zeenat Naikoo was one fof the top local JeM terrorist in Shopian. He used to play the role of local anchor to the Pakistani Jaish terrorists. He was also involved in various incidents of terror activities including killing four policemen.
As per latest reports, the Shopian encounter has been called off.
