Srinagar: Security forces on Saturday succeeded in killing two terrorists in Sopore town of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district after a brief encounter.

According to a senior police official, in this gunfight which lasted for a short duration, two officers of the state police were also injured.
He said that on receiving specific information about terrorits moving in a vehicle to carry out terrorist action in Sopore area, the security forces comprising special operation group of the police and the Army’s 52 Rashtriya Rifles immediately swung into action and intercepted the terrorists near Amargarh village in Sopore.
On being challenged, the terrorists lobbed a grenade and resorted to firing upon police party in which SP operation Baramulla Shafqat Hussain and a Sub Inspector of Police Mohammad Murtaza were injured, said the police official.
He said that in the retaliatory action, two terrorists were killed and from their possession two AK series rifles, one pistol, four hand grenades and other arms and ammunition were recovered.
The slain terrorists were identified as Hizbul Mujahideen commander Parvaiz Ahmad from Galoora Handwara and Umar Ghazi.
“With the elimination of these terrorists, a major terrorist action was averted,” added the police official.
