Srinagar: Security forces on Friday killed two Jais-e-Mohammad (JeM) terrorists in a fierce gunfight in Sopore town of the state.

One of the terrorists, whose identity is yet to be established, was killed in Warpora locality

According to a police official, one of the terrorists, whose identity is yet to be established, was killed in Warpora locality.

The police official said that on a specific tip off, the security forces started a cordon and search operation in Warpora. “As the cordon around the hiding terrorists was tightened, they fired at the security forces triggering an encounter,” said the police official.

He said that though two of the hiding terrorists have been neutralised, the operation against the terrorists was on till reports last came in.

However, clashes broke out between the locals and security forces near the gunfight site as they tried to disrupt the operation against the hiding terrorists.

In order to disperse the stone pelting crowd, the security forces used pellet gunshots and tear smoke in which a few of the pelters were injured.

As a precautionary measure, the authorities have suspended mobile Internet services in Sopore and adjoining areas.
