Lucknow: The Yogi Adityanath government in the state is contemplating strict action against the radical forces and organisations involved in cases of arson and violence during the anti-Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) protests.

According to top officials of the state, the government has been a close watch on the activities of radical Islamic group, ‘Popular Front of India’ (PFI) whose activities has lately been noticed in the state.
Though there is no official word on the state government’s move to impose a ban on PFI but the plans to ban it is certainly on cards, said sources adding that it was of common knowledge that after the Centre imposed a ban on SIMI, most of its cadre were functional under the banner of PFI.
During the recent anti-CAA protest, the state suffered maximum loss of government property and life in the violent protests.
In Meerut, the police have arrested two miscreants in connection with the violence. During investigation, it was revealed that both the accused were active members of the PFI.
“With the arrest of members of this organisation in Meerut, the situation is clear. At present, the Uttar Pradesh Police intelligence and the state government are keeping a close watch on all the suspicious activities of this organisation,” said a senior official.
He said that in Meerut the PFI has spread its tentacles and its activities were visible in Meerut, Lucknow and other parts of the state.
Sources said that even the Delhi Police is also planning to take strict action against the PFI.
During interrogation, the two miscreants caught in Meerut have reportedly revealed that the headquarters of the PFI is located near South-East Delhi’s Shaheen Bagh/Okhla-Jamia Nagar area.
An exemplary action will be taken against the organisation so that no untoward action happens in the future, a senior police official confided.
