Srinagar: The Army on Monday foiled a major infiltration attempt by terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir and in the process killed five terrorists on the Line of Control (LoC).

However, a soldier was also martyred in the operation that started on Sunday, said defence ministry spokesman.
Defence Ministry spokesman Colonel Rajesh Kalia said that the gun fight erupted near the Line of Control (LoC) in Tangdhar sector when infiltrating terrorists were challenged by the alert soldiers.
He said that the gun fight had started on Sunday when the suspicious movement of a group of terrorists was first noticed by the Army on Sunday. “When challenged, two of the infiltrating terrorists were killed on Sunday itself,” said the spokesman.
He said that the search operation continued through the night on Sunday and early on Monday morning the encounter with the remaining of the heavily armed terrorists started again.
In this whole operation which still continues in the area, a soldier has been martyred.
