Lucknow: A constable of Uttar Pradesh police was on Saturday arrested and booked for murder after he shot and killed an Apple executive from close range late on Friday night.

The police constable, who was on a patrol duty, after failing to stop Apple sales manager Vivek Tiwari’s car during a checking, chased him and shot him in the neck, killing him, a colleague of the deceased said.
The incident happened at around 1.45 am, when Tiwari was going to drop home a colleague Sana Khan before heading home after the launch of iPhone X plus.
Sana stated in her FIR that Tiwari got scared when asked to stop by the cops. He (Tewari) tried to drive away from that place and in the process, the car hit the Cop’s mobike. She said that the cop fired at him and the car dashed against a pillar of an underpass.
She further said that a police team arrived at the scene after some time and carried Tewari to Lohia hospital.
A police official said that the autopsy revealed on Saturday that the bullet hit Tiwari’s chin and got stuck between the neck and the head, leading to his death due to profuse bleeding.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Lucknow Kalanidhi Naithani said constable Prashant Chowdhary has been booked for murder after an FIR was filed by Sana Khan.
On the other hand, as per the police, when the constable on patrol duty placed his mobike before the car which was stationary on the roadside at Gomtinagar extension, he signaled the occupant to get down. Instead of getting down, the driver (Tiwari) started the car and hit the mobike in an attempt to escape.
The police official further said that when the cops tried to chase Tiwari ‘s car, he tried to crush them under the wheels of his vehicle and there after the constable fired in self-defence.
However, the second policeman has also been arrested and medical examination of both was underway to ascertain whether they were under influence of alcohol when the incident took place, the official added.
Meanwhile, Tiwari’s wife Kalpana has accused the police of being “trigger-happy”. She told reporters that she was informed of “an accident” and that her husband had been taken to the Lohia hospital.
She said that on reaching the hospital, she was told that Vivek had died due to excessive bleeding and added that the bullet angle was not even revealed to her.
