Two LeT terrorists killed in J&K’s Anantnag; Terror hideout busted in Shopian

Srinagar: Two Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists have been killed in a joint operation by Jammu and Kashmir Police, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) & Army at Gund Baba Khalil in Sangam town of Anantnag district in wee hours of Saturday.

A police official said that though the encounter has ended, a search operation was still on in the area

According to the police, two terrorists affiliated with Lashkar-e-Taiba were killed in a joint operation conducted by the police, CRPF and the Army. Police recovered one AK-47 rifle, a pistol and several magazines and other ammunition from the encounter site.

The neutrealised terrorists have been identified as Naveed Bhat alias Furqan, resident of Qaimoh and Aaqib Yaseen Bhat, also a resident of Qaimoh.

Sources said the security forces on receiving specific input about the presence of the terrorists, launched a cordon and search operation. As the security cordon tightened, the hiding terrorists resorted to firing that triggered the encounter which resulted in killing of two LeT terrosists, said a police official.

A police official said that though the encounter has ended, a search operation was still on in the area.

Here it may be mentioned here that this was the second major encounter this week in south Kashmir.

Meanwhile, earlier on Fridaty night, securioty forces launched a cordon and search operation in Heff area of Shopian district in south Kashmir following specific inputs about a terrorist hideout.

During searches in the area, the police recovered incriminating materials, including huge quantity of arms and ammunition, form the possession of two persons identified as Mohd Shameem Bhat alias Shahid and Zubair Ahmed Padder, both residents of Heff.

During investigations, they revealed about more arms and ammunition dumped in nearby orchards which the police were able to recover.

During the course of investigation, the police learnt about another individual, Bilal Ahmad Teli of Heff, and subsequently recovered arms, ammunition and other incriminating materials from his possession.

All the three persons have been arrested. As per the investigations, they are linked to proscribed terror outfit Hizbul Mujahideen and were providing support to active Hizbul terrorist Feroz Dar operating in the area.
