Security forces cordon off area in Pulwama as terrorists attack Army patrol

Srinagar: Following attack by a group of terrorists on an Army patrol party in the evening, a counter-insurgency operation was launched in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Friday.

The search operation was on at the time of filing of this report

According to a senior police official, security forces cordoned off the area around Saimooh village in Pulwama’s Tral and intensive search operations are currently underway by the security forces.

He said that terrorists attacked a Army patrol by the 42 Rashtriya Rifles, triggering a brief exchange of fire between the terrorists and the security forces. However, the terrorists slipped away taking advantage of darkness but the entire area has been cordoned off and an intensive search operation is on to nab or neutralise the terrorists responsible for the attack, said the police official.

More security reinforcements have reached the site and a positive outcome of the operation is expected, added the police official.

It may be mentioned here that on Tuesday, security forces called off a similar operation after Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists managed to flee during a gun-battle in the Hakripora area of the same district.

The said operation had been disrupted by protesters who pelted stones at security personnel that enabled the terrorists make their escape.
