Pakistan again violates ceasefire on LoC in Poonch and Rajouri, civilian killed

Jammu: Once again on Thursday morning, the Pakistani troops violated the ceasefire in two sector of Jammu and Kashmir, resulting in death of a civilian in Rajouri district.

According to an official, besides death of a civilian, a BSF jawan and a civilian were also injured in the firing by the Pakistan Army.

He said that the Indian and Pakistani troops were engaged in heavy fire along the Line of Control (LoC) in Rajouri and Poonch districts of the state.

Pakistan Army initiated unprovoked indiscriminate firing of small arms, automatics, 82 mm and 120 mm mortars from 7.20 am along the LoC in Naushera sector of Rajouri district and from 7.40 am in Krishna Ghati sector of Poonch district.

Confirming the development, Defence Ministry spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Manish Mehta said that the ongoing firing in Naushera started at 7.20 am, and at 7.40 am in Krishna Ghati.

He said, “our forces are effectively retaliating with firing in both the sector presently on.”

Security forces were also engaged in evacuating people from the villages under fire from the Pakistani side at the LoC.

Meanwhile, Army Chief General Bipin Rawat has reached Srinagar and is reported to have been holding meeting with the Army commanders to review the security situation at the LoC and also the prevailing conditions in the Kashmir valley.

It may be mentioned here that on May 17, Pakistan Army had fired on forward posts along the LoC in Balakote sector in Rajouri district and prior to that it had shelled forward areas and civilian areas along the LoC in Rajouri district on May 15 and 16.
